We have 2 ex racing greyhounds, and got them from
 DC Greyhound Rescue
 
 
Our Greyhounds
 
Their names are Casper (racing name, Skyline Mynt)
and Scottie (racing name, Granada Rover)

His racing name is Granada Rover, and he is in trap one.

Pet Travel Scheme

Both our dogs have passports so we can take them to mainland Europe in the motorhome.
If you use the tunnel, the dogs travel with you, unlike the ferries, where they have to go in kennels on board the ferry. Total vet costs are about £150 per passport.

'Missing' Racing Greyhounds
 
  • The greyhound racing industry has made huge steps in improving the welfare for retired racing greyhounds. Read their side of the story here. Many breaders are responsible and have a love for their dogs, and make sure they go to rehoming charities, or keep them as pets once they have retired.
 
  • The RSPCA and others (see page 6 of report below) state that at least 4500 greyhounds go 'missing' every year. This figure only takes into account the registered animals, and is generally considered an underestimation.
 
  • Read the report from 'The associate parliamentary group for animal welfare', looking into the welfare issues surrounding racing greyhounds in England (May 07).

  

 

 

 

My personal opinion is that I will go to the racing when all the greyhounds are accounted for each year, and the industry is regulated.

  • If you must go to see greyhounds racing, then at least go to a 'Greyhound Board of Great Britian' track (Belle Vue is a Greyhound Board track).
